Philosophy
Friendship Co-Operative Playschool is a place where families, the teacher and staff work together to provide an inquiry-based learning environment, which fosters creativity and fun. It is a center where each child is recognized as a competent and capable learner in his or her own unique way, where children are encouraged explore and learn. It is a place where parents can share their culture, skills and interests to benefit and help the school progress and it is a place where lasting friendships are formed. Friendship Co-Operative Playschool was created for the family and family is still the foundation of the school today.
Description
Friendship Co-operative Playschool was established in 1984 by five women, all in the same situation: they wanted to provide stimulating learning opportunities for their children and meet other families with the same desire. They decided to start a co-operative preschool – a place where families have the option to participate in their children’s education.
As it was back in 1984, the school is run as a non-profit organization that is run with the assistance of parents and is overseen by paid Registered Early Childhood Educators. Our centre is licensed by The Ministry of Education with a preschool program for children aged 2.5 to 5 years. The preschool program can accommodate three 2 year olds.
